Steadfastness in His Will

John 4:34: “Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work”
17th March 2024
Bible Reading: John 4:34

Our Lord Jesus Christ clearly submitted that His food is to do the will of Him that sent Him and also to finish the work. This means that what sustains His life and purpose is to be found doing what the Father wants and pleases Him. Any other thing that would not achieve this aim would be a poison for Him. The second stanza of Hymn 621 brings to our attention the need to remain steadfast in doing the will of the Father. It is interesting that we are not only told to do His will but also to be consistent in it because a one-off exercise or attempt would  not yield any result. To be steadfast is to remain committed to the course that you have signed up for irrespective of the challenges, persecutions, and trials you may confront you. The scripture was quite clear about the will of God as captured in Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians that it is for us to be sanctified and holy as we abstain from all forms of immorality (1 Thessalonians 4:3). Are you willing to commit to this? The hymn instructs us that our steadfastness is important because the Lord will soon be here to know how much work we have done in this regard. Beloved, you need to endeavour that you are not in any way yoked with the world which would not only contaminate you but make you an enemy to God. Do not be discouraged in your desire to be chaste, holy, and separated unto God as you keep your eyes on Christ who is coming soon to weigh your work. May the good Lord help you in this regard in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Prayer point: Oh Lord, now I know that doing your will is not a one-off but a type that requires consistency, help me to be steadfast in my sanctification no matter where I find myself in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
