The Sovereign God I
One key thing that we need to know about God is that He is sovereign. That is, He controls the affairs of man and never under the control of anything or anyone. In addition to this is that He does whatever He wishes or likes and no one can query Him. This means that whatever He decides to do with/for us cannot be questioned or hindered by anyone. Stanza 1 of Hymn 206 brings to our attention corroborating this that Jesus rules over the kingdom of this world and the kingdom of heaven. That is, He controls the authorities and the ‘power that be’ in these contexts. The significance of this is that when we have Him in us, no power in this world can have power over us as we would be basking in His authority. Several characters in the Bible had this experience. Daniel, when threatened by the king of this world, remained resolute and continued to pray to God who was able to rescue him from the lion's den. This led to a situation where God of Daniel was acknowledged and worshipped. The same scenario as well for the three Hebrew men who refused to bow to the golden image but remained committed to God were unhurt in the burning furnace. Beloved, are you ready to operate in the authority of Christ? With this, you will not live in fear or be subdued by any force. All that you require is to accept Christ as your Lord and Saviour so that you can live a life of victory. Besides, authority here on earth, your affiliation with Him also guarantees you a place with the Father. May the good Lord help you in this regard in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Prayer point: Oh Lord, now I know that you reign over the earth and the heaven in majesty, help me to remain connected to you so that I can live with the believers’ authority in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
