Not here forever
One of the things that we need to know as believers is that no matter how long we spend on earth, it is only a fraction of what eternity holds. As a result, there is a need to ensure we do everything possible to have a glorious eternity which will be a function of how we live our lives here on earth. Stanza 2 of Hymn 291 brings to our attention with certainty that the world would come to an end and all shall cease to be. This means that nothing would be in existence suggesting the following:
- Whatever we have should be attributed to God who is the giver of all good things and can request or take it when He decides.
- Not allowing the things of this world to be a separator between ourselves and God. The scripture clearly asked what profits a man if he gains this whole world and loses his soul. Nothing whatsoever is enough to serve as a substitute.
- We must always be living with eternity in view and as a sojourner in this world knowing well that we are only pilgrims with our final destination being His presence.
- Always and constantly be aware of the agenda of the evil one which is to let you focus solely on this current world by enticing you with the things there-in.
Beloved, always endeavour that you jealously guide your work with God so that when this world comes to an end you will not be ashamed. May the good Lord help you in this regard in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Prayer point: Oh Lord, help me not to hold tightly to this world to the point that I will lose eternity in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
